What’s Interesting About this Concert

  • Concerto grosso is Italian for “big concerto.” Unlike a concerto with one soloist, a concerto grosso employs a group of musicians to pass the melody between themselves and the orchestra.
  • Although concerti grossi were most popular in the Baroque period (1600-1750), this program will showcase their evolution over time, including a revival of the model by 20th Century composers.
