ISO and ElderPoint Announce Transportation Partnership
The first orchestra concert of the 2019/2020 season will be a little easier to attend thanks to a new partnership between the Imperial Symphony Orchestra and ElderPoint Ministries of Greater Lakeland.
Studies show that 37% of “interested non-attendees” lack transportation or have difficulty getting to a venue. Another 22% don’t have anyone with whom to attend. A 2015 survey by the National Endowment for the Arts outlines motivations and barriers to arts participation, specifically detailing the high interest and disproportionately low attendance among retirees, empty nesters and older adults in poor health.
The benefits of social interaction and arts participation are evident in similar studies, leading the executive directors of both organizations to take action.
ISO concerts begin after dark, when many day-drivers prefer to stay off the roads. With a well-run, agile fleet of vans (including wheelchair-accessible), ElderPoint Ministries is an established service provider for transportation to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and mostly day-time activities – leaving an entire fleet available for evening activities.
Fleet of available vans PLUS patrons who prefer not to drive after dark equals WIN, WIN, WIN!
ISO subscribers may “add on” a ride sharing membership providing transportation to all six ISO performances for just $40. And, ElderPoint executive director Jane Hammond will include a complimentary ElderPoint transportation membership, giving ISO patrons access to low-cost rides throughout the year.
How It Works
1. Subscribe to the ISO’s season, selecting three or more performances to attend.
2. “Add on” an ISO ride sharing membership for $40 by calling the ISO office.
3. Receive a call from ElderPoint the week before the concert to confirm your ride.
4. Use your complimentary ElderPoint transportation membership to schedule low-cost rides to doctor’s appointments, the grocery store or a friend’s home throughout the year.
Make sure you’re in the audience for every note this season! For more details and to join the ride share, call the ISO office: (863) 688-3473.
