Symphony to Close 50th Season with Joyful Performance
Nearly 200 voices will join ISO musicians on stage.
The Imperial Symphony Orchestra will present Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with support from nearly 200 voices from Lakeland Choral Society, Florida Southern College and Southeastern University. The final concert of the 2015-2016 Masterworks Series will take place Tuesday April 19 at 7:30 p.m. at The Lakeland Center’s Youkey Theatre.
Symphony No. 9 is Beethoven’s final complete symphony, and one of the first choral symphonies of the time. To learn more about Beethoven and the themes in this symphony, visit the program notes page. In addition to the choir, four vocalists who have also performed in ISO productions of A Night at the Opera will take the stage. Soloists Stella Zambalis (soprano), Christina Sale (alto), Mark Thomsen (tenor) and Thomas Potter (baritone) will lead the final movement with words from “An die Freude” (Ode to Joy) by Friedrich Schiller.
Before the performance, patrons are invited to share “joyful” moments with a photobooth in the lobby presented by Midtown Dental.
Tickets to “Ode to Joy” are $35, $25 and $15. Students are always free to Masterworks performances thanks to a grant from the George W. Jenkins Fund within GiveWell Community Foundation. Purchase event tickets by calling The Lakeland Center’s box office (863) 834-8111 Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
